Research that has been published always emphasizes amount of porosity to correlate back to the goal of the windbreak. There is no magical gap spacing, but rather correct percentages based on the material used for the desired porosity. We build them heavy to last for many years! We have many reports of panels standing over 70 mph and 32 of 100+ mph.
We do make a bracket that can be added at any time that makes our windbreaks into shades. We highly recommend this add on as it makes the panels useable all 12 months.
For some reading materials to better understand windbreak dynamics and benefits look at the following research. You’ll have to copy and paste the URL to get the articles.

We have 400 cow/calf operation, so we study trail cameras and watch every day how the animals react to different things. This is why we build the way we do and recommend the things we do. It’s not a matter of “if” you need something as effective and well built as our stuff, but “when”. When it happens you’ll be thankful you went with C&W welding where we are ‘Built by cattlemen, for cattlemen’.
We also build bottomless fenceline bunks, bottomless bunks, Bill’s driveover Atv/Utv Gates, and creep gates.
